MahaRERA Encourages Real Estate Developers to Create Customer Support Teams
Thursday, 17th Aug 2023: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) is urging real estate developers to establish dedicated customer support teams within their companies. This move comes as MahaRERA plans to introduce a rating system for developers in the state. One factor in the rating will be the presence of a customer grievance redressal unit, as stated by MahaRERA.

MahaRERA noticed that homebuyers often face difficulties in resolving issues after the sales phase, as the sales staff, who were their main point of contact during the initial phase, are not equipped to handle post-sales problems effectively. To address this, MahaRERA is requiring all developers to create grievance redressal cells for their projects. A circular outlining this requirement has been sent to all builders registered with the authority.
Each developer should have at least one dedicated grievance redressal officer, and their name and contact details should be prominently displayed at the project site and on the developer’s website, according to MahaRERA. Moreover, developers will need to disclose the number of complaints received and resolved on their website once the cell is established. This transparency aims to enhance project credibility.
Since its inception in May 2017, MahaRERA has registered over 42,000 real estate projects in Maharashtra, with more than 12,000 projects completed. Over the past six years, MahaRERA has received over 22,000 complaints against real estate developers in the state.
