Commercial assets lead the charge: Indian Real Estate sees 88% surge in Investments
According to a report by Vestian, a Commercial Real Estate consultant, institutional investments in the Indian Real Estate sector experienced a notable decline of 40.7% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2023. Despite the market uncertainty, the sector showcased remarkable resilience and saw a surge in institutional investments.
The report highlights that the Indian Real Estate sector is expected to gain momentum in the upcoming quarters, fueled by robust GDP growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming infrastructure developments, as stated by Shrinivas Rao, CEO of Vestian.
During Q2 2023, investments in Commercial assets, including Office Spaces, Retail Properties, Co-working Spaces & Hospitality Projects, soared to 88% from 39% in the previous quarter (Q1 2023), indicating a renewed demand for office spaces. In contrast, the share of investments in the Residential sector plummeted from 27% in Q1 2023 to a mere 4% in Q2 2023, as institutional investors favored higher-yielding assets over residential properties.
Foreign investors dominated the total institutional investments during Q2 2023, holding a significant 92% share. The investors’ bullish outlook on India’s growth story contributed to this trend. Furthermore, multi-city investment deals accounted for around 94% of the total investment deals during this period.
