Pune Metro
UNIQUE PROJECT FEATURES of Pune Metro Rail Project
Maha Metro has made every possible effort to bring uniqueness to the Pune Metro project.
Some of these efforts are as follows:
Lightest Metro Coaches in the country: Pune Metro is the first project in the country to have aluminum body coaches that are indigenously manufactured under the Make In India policy of GoI. Over 70% of the coach components are indigenous, making them the lightest coaches in the country. They are 6.5% lighter than conventional stainless-steel coaches.
UNIQUE PROJECT FEATURES of Pune Metro Rail Project
Project Management Excellence through 5D BIM Digital Project Management Platform: The Pune and Nagpur Metros are the first projects in the country to use this international best practice for project management excellence to overcome the challenges of time and cost overrun, quality, and safety. This digital project management platform automates project execution activities such as engineering, designs, drawings, site execution, billing, accounting, budgeting, time scheduling, cost controlling, and operation and maintenance.
Integration of Rooftop, Grid-connected Solar Power through RESCO Model: The Pune Metro has made provisions for the installation of 11.2 MWp solar power generation on the rooftops of elevated stations and depots from the project’s inception. The power generated will meet energy requirements up to 45%. The installation will prevent 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and lead to a sustainable environment by reducing carbon footprint.
NCMC-compliant Common Mobility Card – “EK PUNE” card: Maha Metro has designed an open-loop chip-based contactless RuPay smart card in compliance with the NCMC mandate of GoI. This step by Maha Metro will not only result in one card for the metro all over the country but also for buses, feeders, parking, utility, and other retail payment in Pune City. The card is named “Ek Pune” Card.
Innovative design of UG station with NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method): The underground section of the Pune Metro passes through the most congested locations in Pune, where space availability is limited. As the conventional Cut & Cover method of building underground stations was not possible, it was resolved by using NATM. Mandai and Budhwar Peth metro stations have been designed using this technology.
Kachre se Kanchan tak – Transforming Municipal Garbage Site into Car depot: The Kothrud Kachra dump at Vanaz was a 50-year-old dump spread over 12.2 hectares and up to 12 m high. Maha Metro took over this site with 3.8 lakh cubic meters of garbage. After scientific treatment, 2 lakh cubic meters of screened material was found suitable for backfilling as per IS 2720 and used for backfilling at the depot. This transformation eliminated serious health hazards to densely populated colonies around the garbage dump and will generate substantial non-fare box revenue.
“No Tree Cutting” Policy of Maha Metro: Maha Metro has a policy of not cutting trees, but transplants them using the Arboriculture based Root Ball Technique. Three new trees are planted for every transplant undertaken, and ten new trees are planted for every failed transplant.
Iconic Station designs depicting Pune’s historical & cultural heritage: The Pune Metro has adopted unique architectural themes for different stations related to their locations. Designs include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s fort theme and Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s era Pagdi theme.
Industrial themes are present at PCMC and Bhosari Metro Station in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. Since Pune is one of the greenest cities in India, “Leaf-themed” station designs are at Sant Tukaram Nagar, Kasarwadi.
